What Is A Podcast?

First of all, in understanding the world of podcasting, it is important to be clear about definitions. This is important because often an individual who is new to anything can be intimidated by the vocabulary when not knowing what specific words mean. Those two words are pod and cast from broadcasting. When combined together these two words capture the essence of what podcasting is all about. Specifically, the use of a handheld pod to listen or view broadcasted information.

In addition, a podcast can shared information ranging over a number of topics. Examples of those types of topics could be the sharing of technical information, music, opinions on politics, getting messages to the employees of a company, etc. Additionally, because this information utilizes a pod or other similar device, the information can be easily downloaded and played at the convenience of the individual.

The other advantage of a podcast is that almost anyone can create a podcast. This can be accomplished by utilizing a computer, a quality microphone and access to a website. In addition, in order to create a podcast, the creative individual will need to have access to recording software. The website is required if an individual wants to share their created podcast with a larger community

Obviously, there are a number of software packages available for one to be able to record their voice. The individual who is creating a podcast can use expensive software or an inexpensive software package. Ideally, the individual may find that the best type of software to utilize is one that includes some type of editing options available in the software.

In addition, if wanting to create a video podcast the exact requirements are needed only instead of just recording the audio portion a camera is required to capture the video aspect of the intended podcast.
